How do home visits work?
An early learning specialist who knows your community, speaks your language, and shares a cultural background, comes to your home with books, toys and educational activities, then plays and reads with you and your child.
How long do home visits last?
Each visit lasts 30 minutes. They happen twice a week and continue for a two-year period that follows the public school calendar (September-June).
How much does it cost?
It’s free!
Do we get to keep the books and toys?

Mental Health FAQs
You may be seeking professional counseling for the first time, and therefore may be unsure of what to expect. We want you to feel well informed and comfortable with your understanding of our services. Here are some of frequently asked questions about our mental health services.
Are your services right for everyone?
There was a time when seeking professional mental health care was viewed with a stigma, but that is changing. We believe our services may be the right choice for anyone who desires growth and change with their emotions, thoughts, behaviors and relationships. Our clients reflect the community we serve, including parents and families, business professionals, healthcare providers, educators, pastors, student athletes, and more.
Is what I share kept confidential?
Your services at SEYFS, like all other healthcare services are protected under the Privacy Rule of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act HIPAA). Your personal information cannot be shared with a third party without your consent, with a few legal exceptions, mostly pertaining to the endangerment of another person, including violence, abuse, and/or neglect. What are your fees? Do you take insurance?
The fees for services vary based on provider and type of service. If you would like to use your insurance, we will submit claims on your behalf to your insurance company.
We are in-network with First Choice Health, LifeWise, and Premera.
Other options: Private pay, reduced fees to those in need, free services available to some adolescents and young adults in Seattle.
What are your hours?
Our therapists are available Monday through Friday at a variety of times. We have some therapists who are available for early morning and evening appointments.
Where are services provided?
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, most counseling appointments took place at our office (3722 S. Hudson St., Seattle),with some services for youth and families available in client homes, or schools, depending on our therapists’ availability.
We began meeting with clients virtually in mid-March 2020, following CDC and Public Health—Seattle & King County guidelines to slow the spread of coronavirus and protect our staff and community.
How do I schedule my first appointment?
Our intake therapist can answer your questions, help you connect with a therapist, and schedule your first therapy appointment. Call us at (206) 721-5542, ext. 31 or email us at counseling@seyfs.org.
What happens at the first appointment?
Your therapist and you will talk about your reasons for seeking services and review some of your history. You will discuss your goals for growth and change, and your therapist will make some recommendations for the next right steps. First appointments are typically about 55 minutes in length.
What languages do your therapists speak?
We have therapists who speak these languages: English, Amharic, Oromo, Tigrigna, and Mandarin.
